Character Name: Hirato Murano
Race: Shinigami
Position of Character: Captain Commander of the Gotei 13
Character Loyalties: Gotei 13
Character Goals: Rebuilding the Gotei 13 and reconnecting Soul Society to the human world
Character Backstory / History:
Hirato was born six centuries ago, the sole heir to the noble family of Murano. The Murano had produced many generations of Shinigami and was even involved in Soul Society's founding. Therefore, Hirato was trained to become a Shinigami when he was old enough to hold a practice sword. Hirato excelled in Zanjutsu from a young age and was accepted into the Shinigami Academy.
Once in the Academy, Hirato continued to develop his abilities. He worked on Kido, his weakest subject, but he graduated from the Academy despite his weakness in that area. Hirato was accepted into the 7th Division as an unseated member. Over time, he worked his way up the ranks until he became the 3rd Seat of the 7th roughly 200 years ago.
Resignation, untimely deaths, and other circumstances led to him becoming the 7th Division's Captain. Soon after, he met Kaoru Tsukino (known as Takahata at that time) one night while he was walking around the Seireitei. This unexpected encounter would cause the two of them to develop a relationship as teacher and student. The two of them soon started to have romantic feelings for each other, though it took some time before either admitted to the other person.
Hirato settled into his role as 7th Captain until he found out that the Central 46 had betrayed the Gotei 13. Hirato saw the first battle at Sokyoku Hill, rushing to help Captain Commander Demizu in the fierce fighting. However, Hirato was confronted by a clone of himself and barely managed to defeat it with his Zanpakuto revealing his Bankai. Hirato found that forces loyal to the Central 46 had tried to attack the Tsukino clan, but Kaoru and her father had survived.
The Civil War raged on, but Hirato took time to recover and rest. Then, he jumped back into the Civil War, becoming a major leader on the side of the Rebels fighting the Central 46. Hirato was even drawn into conflicts with other Captains who supported the Central 46 and sustained serious injuries several times. However, Hirato survived and continued to draw people to the Rebel cause.
After centuries, the Civil War was finally ended and Hirato could return to his Captaincy. During the Civil War, Hirato and Kaoru married. The two of them lived at the Murano manor until it was destroyed during the later parts of the Civil War. Hirato had it completely rebuilt, a reconstruction that lasted almost a century due to the building's size, style, and various other factors. The Murano manor is now indistinguishable from the original one.
Unfortunately, Kaoru died in the fighting. She was protecting her children and Hirato arrived too late to save her. Upon seeing her corpse, Hirato went berserk and annihilated the forces that had taken his wife away from him. This act gained him a reputation as a chaotic and powerful force in the Civil War. Their five children all survived, however, thanks to their mother's sacrifice.
Now, Hirato heard of Captain Commander Demizu retiring from her position. He was surprised to hear that she had become the headmistress of the Shinigami Academy but wondered who would replace her. Hirato was honored that she chose him to succeed her as the Captain Commander of the Gotei 14. Now, Hirato works to rebuild Soul Society and lead the Gotei 14 into a new age.......
---BIO---
Age: 700
Gender: Male
Height: 6'3"
Weight: 215 lbs
Hair Color: Crimson
Eye Color: Deep blue
Physical Description:
Hirato is a very tall and muscular Shinigami. Even out of the taller Captains, Hirato is taller than most of them. Hirato has two black dragon tattoos on his forearms, though now the tattoos look different than they did in his earlier years. Instead of only covering his forearms, the tattoos run all the way up to his shoulders.
Hirato's deep blue eyes reflect experience and power when you look into them. If you are close enough to him, sometimes you can see the shadow of great sadness in them. Most of the time, however, there is a determined energy in his gaze.
His hair is cut short, barely reaching his neck in the back and far from his eyes in the front. Hirato doesn't really put much work into styling his hair, so it often looks messy. When he is leading Captain meetings or doing other official business, Hirato will make sure his hair looks neat to give off the proper appearance. Most of the time, though, he leaves it messy.
As for his clothes, Hirato does not wear the traditional Captain's Haori. He wears a silver and black Haori with a red symbol for the 1st division. His traditional white Haori was destroyed in the Civil War and Hirato specifically created his own custom Haori after that, having the Murano clan's servants use their knowledge of armor-crafting to make the Haori into something resembling light armor. It is much more durable than a standard Haori but since it is still like light armor, it does not restrict Hirato's movement.
Personality:
As mentioned earlier, Hirato was part of the Gotei Rebels in the Shinigami Civil War. In fact, he was one of their most vocal supporters and leaders. He chose their side for a simple reason: the Central 46 murdered Yamamoto for their own selfish purposes, then covered it up. Hirato despises such acts, considering them cowardly and dishonorable. Hirato values honor, fairness, and justice above loyalty to an established order like the Central 46.
This might seem strange since he himself is the leader of an established order. However, Hirato conducts himself in such a way that he hopes his subordinates will follow him. He behaves himself with honor and treats his subordinates with kindness and respect. Hirato considers every Shinigami a valuable member of Soul Society, even the ones whose names he doesn't even know. His opinion of them as individuals depends simply on their actions and their character.
Aside from Shinigami, Hirato respects Quincy, whether they are in the Order of the Holy Cross or not. Membership in the Order is something for a Quincy to decide for themselves in his opinion. Hirato even befriended Ren Kagurazaki, a very powerful Quincy who was not a member of the Order. Like with Shinigami, Hirato examines and makes his opinion about a Quincy based on their actions and character.
Arrancar and Hollows are a different story. Hirato greatly dislikes them both, since they are the natural enemy of the Shinigami and have attacked them many times over the centuries. Hirato has personally fought both Arrancar and Hollows for most of his life and considers it his duty to protect Soul Society from them. He is determined to end the Arrancar threat inside Soul Society and send them back to Hueco Mundo, even if it means he must lead the Gotei into battle personally.
Humans are a complicated matter for him. Hirato feels a need to protect them, but still thinks that humans are very self-destructive due to their constant, pointless (in his opinion) conflicts that never accomplish anything except death and devastation. Despite this, reconnecting more of the Senkaimon to the human world is one of his main goals as Captain Commander.
Among his family, Hirato shows his caring, compassionate side. He loves his children deeply. Hirato worries about Hiro the most, though, since Hiro inherited the full power of the Murano bloodline and he was one of the few Shinigami left in the human world when the Senkaimon were destroyed. Hirato believes firmly that his son is all right, however.
---COMBAT---
Fighting Style:
Hirato's fighting style is a complex one. First, he analyzes his opponent and figures out their fighting style and mannerisms. Then, he devises several plans. After that, Hirato does his best to trick his opponent into behaving in such a way that his plan works out as well as possible. If one of his plans fails, he simply modifies it or uses a different plan.
Hirato prefers to fight in close quarters. He is more than capable of fighting well at long range, but his swordsmanship and Hakuda mean that he is a bit of a disadvantage at extreme long range. Hirato is aware of this, of course, and devises his plans to try to ensure his opponent is forced to fight him in close quarters combat.

Zanpakuto Name: Kaimetsu Senku
Zanpakuto Appearance: Kaimetsu Senku looks like a standard katana in its sealed form. The only notable difference is that the hilt has gold markings that look like flames on it.
Zanpaktou Inner World: Kaimetsu Senku's Inner World is a beach. The weather changes with Hirato's emotions, from a sunny day when he's happy to a stormy night when he's feeling very sad. There are many variations on this as well, so the weather of the Inner World changes quite a bit. Simply put, the weather is as varied as Hirato's emotions.
Shikai Release Phrase: Execute, Kaimetsu Senku!
Shikai Appearance: Kaimetsu Senku looks like a fairly standard spear. The handle, hilt, and guard are all black. The blade itself is about eight inches long, very sharp, and looks very well polished.
Shikai Abilities:
Name: Yari no Kaze
Class: Offensive
Range: Melee
Description: Hirato compresses the wind around Kaimetsu Senku's blade and attacks his opponent with it.
Name: Shikon no Kaze
Class: Offensive
Range: 30 feet maximum, no minimum
Description: Hirato compresses wind currents around Kaimetsu Senku's blade. Then, he fires the 'missile' of wind at his opponent. The missile is only as large as Kaimetsu Senku's blade, but it is very fast. The missile is conical shaped and its sharpest point is its edge.
Name: Shouheki no Banjaku
Class: Defensive
Range: 1-3 feet
Description: Hirato uses his skill in compressing wind to create a physical barrier to ward off frontal attacks. This barrier lasts three turns.
Bankai Release Phrase: Execute mercilessly, Yaiba no Junsei Kaze!
Bankai Appearance: Upon releasing his Bankai, a large wind current engulfs Hirato. Once that current dissipates, his weapon has now transformed into a curved sword. The curved sword has markings on the blade, the hilt, and the guard. The guard and pommel are golden while the hilt is a solid black.
Hirato's Bankai
Bankai Abilities:
Name: Tenrai Keibatsu
Class: Offensive
Range: 1 mile
Description: Hirato creates a storm using the nearby wind currents and compresses the many powerful currents into a single, devastating blast. Then he fires the blast at the opponent. The blast is massive and very destructive, but moves slower than other similar abilities such as Shikon no Kaze due to its size.
Name: Hanketsu no Zetsumei
Class: Offensive
Range: 500 feet maximum, no minimum
Description: Hanketsu no Zetsumei is very similar to Shikon no Kaze. Hirato compresses wind currents around his Bankai's blade and fires them at the enemy. However, unlike Shikon no Kaze, Hirato can fire up to five wind missiles at once using this ability. Hirato can also control each wind missile individually, although such control requires great concentration and can leave him vulnerable to close quarters fighting. The missiles fired using Hanketsu no Zetsumei are conical shaped and have sharp edges, but Hirato is also able to manipulate the shape of the missiles if he so chooses though this takes great concentration and has similar drawbacks to controlling the missiles' direction manually.
Name: Fujin's Protection
Class: Defensive
Range: 200 feet maximum, no minimum
Description: Fujin's Protection is Hirato's most powerful defensive ability. Using it, he creates a cube of compressed wind around himself and any allies within 200 feet of him. This cube is extremely durable and would take considerable effort from even Captain-class enemies to destroy. This barrier lasts eight turns.
Weaknesses of your Zanpaktou:
Kaimetsu Senku, as the Zanpakuto of the Captain Commander, is very powerful and has few weaknesses. However, it does have some. The first is fire-based abilities. The simple fact is that Kaimetsu Senku uses wind and fire-based abilities may actually get stronger if they come into contact with Kaimetsu Senku's abilities. Of course, Hirato would immediately adapt his tactics if an opponent has fire-based abilities, but the point still stands.
The second weakness it is also unavoidable due to the fact that Kaimetsu Senku is an elemental Zanpakuto that uses wind. Abilities that create vacuums are very effective in countering Kaimetsu Senku, as wind-based abilities cannot be used if there is no air.

Hirato looked at his silver Haori with some concern. The silver Haori was spotless and the red symbol for the 1st Division was imprinted on its back, just like the Haori of the other Captains. Hirato had not expected to become the successor to the Captain Commander position. Xiaoyu Demizu, the former Captain Commander, had sustained serious injuries during the Civil War but had thankfully survived. Hirato had expected that she would return to her position leading the Gotei 14 after recovering from her wounds, but instead she had selected him as her successor, much to his surprise.
The red haired Shinigami put on the Haori. It was his own custom Haori, made to resemble light armor rather than a white coat that signified authority. His own white Haori bearing the 7th division symbol had been destroyed during the Civil War, torn to pieces as he fought for his life against his clone manufactured to eliminate him. Hirato thought about that battle while he picked up his Zanpakuto and put it on his hip where it had rested for the many centuries he had owned it.
Kaimetsu Senku is why he was still alive. The Zanpakuto was the strongest wind-type Zanpakuto and had proven so during the fight with his clone. The clone had possessed all of his abilities, at least all of the abilities he had at the beginning of the Civil War. He had not yet unlocked his Bankai yet and Kaimetsu Senku had told him it was 'too early' whenever he had asked the Zanpakuto to show him Bankai. Kaimetsu Senku had decided it was time for Hirato to unlock Bankai during the fight with the clone.
Either that, or he realized that the clone of Hirato did not have Bankai and Hirato was in serious danger of dying without his Bankai. So Kaimetsu Senku let Hirato use Bankai, an ace in the hole that allowed him to gain victory over the clone. Hirato left his newly rebuilt manor and walked along the streets of the Seireitei. There were only two working Senkaimon gates in Soul Society and he didn't know enough about the situation in the human world. The 13th had gone to join the irregulars of the 14th division in protecting the human world, but there was still plenty of work to be done.....
