The year had flown by so quickly, and with such force that Renko hadn't noticed until it came upon her in the form of festivals for the holidays and getting prepared for the start of the new year. Of course, she had to still keep up her duties at the Hospital as it's Director as well as take care of the Order. For New Years Eve, she had given all of her Order light orders and told them to keep and eye out, but celebrate as they wish with their families. At her desk was a laptop with a radar on it of sorts. It picked up on spiritual energies around certain points where she had placed her sensors. Since Karakura was a big city, she could only cover so much, but at least she could keep an eye on the parts that were the most problematic. Her Jagers could take care of the rest should anything happen tonight. She was dressed in her doctors coat with her black and red scrubs underneath it. She wore simple tennis shoes that allowed her to walk quickly. During the day she had meetings and big wigs to charm, so she wore her more professional clothing then. However, now that she was just with her night staff tonight and she was on call with the other night doctors, she wore comfortable clothing that allowed for easy movement and that she did not mind getting anything on it.
Renko walked around her office with a tired expression. She had recently been severely injured by her fight with the Arrancar Queen, Shidare. They Reyes, like usual, had put up a hell of a fight and Renko walked away with severe injuries sustained in battle. On the outside she looked fine and hid much of the damage underneath her clothes. The only injury she couldn't hide was the scratch on her cheek that was about two and a half inches long and looked like it was deep. However, it was simply a scar now that her Ritters and hospital staff healed her to the best of their ability. She hadn't gotten around to telling the Shinigami of her encounter for she would only see the judgmental gaze of Hirato Murano, the Captain Commander of the Gotei 14. Some days she wished she could meet with the former Captain Commander instead so she didn't have to explain herself or her accidents fully....or at least keep emotions out of it with someone other than him. There was something within his gaze that made her restless. She couldn't place the emotion, but then again....she wasn't sure she wanted to know.
Taking the coffee cup from her desk, she took a sip of the hot and bitter liquid. She wasn't fond of sweet things and often kept only cream in her coffee. The night was going smoothly and as such hadn't had much more than helping getting the meds passed around and taking care of a few procedures here and there. For the most part, her staff handled it quietly and let her rest up in her office. She couldn't just sit around and do nothing, however, and made a habit of going down to the nurses desks and asking if they needed anything. Renko looked at the stack of files that they had given her to 'input', but really they already had done it and just gave them to her to appease her. It wasn't anything unkind, they just didn't want to overload her with extra work. Renko abruptly turned in place and marched toward the door. She couldn't take it any longer, she had to do something. "Keep me standing still will they...." Renko muttered quietly as she took a walk down the hallway towards the children's wing. Surely they were needing something there.
When she had arrived, she saw they were making crafts and having snacks made by the staff in the kitchens. Renko stood in the doorway for a moment, smiling at the warm and inviting atmosphere. Some of the nurses noticed her and waved her over. They smiled at her kindly and greeted her with a bow. Renko returned the greeting and bow and listened as they asked her if she would be able to take care of the medication while they changed bandages and bed clothes. The Scarlet Woman nodded and went to take of the meds. She worked quietly, mostly, and hummed some gentle lullabies while the kids came up to greet her and smile. She smiled back at them and listened to them tell her stories of how their days went. The medication went quickly, more quickly than she wished it would since she was bored, but took the time to sit with the kids and talk with them. They were excited to see her. Little did Renko know, the nurses looked at the sight of her with the child patients and smiled warmly. They thought she would make a wonderful mother and always wished she would find the perfect man already. They were rather impatient about this...
After about an hour, Renko's pager went off to alert her to a nurse who needed help down the hall. She got up and sighed sadly as they wall looked sad to see her go. "I'll see you all in a while, though you all should really go to bed. Tomorrow's the new year after all." After promising again and again that she would come back soon, Renko made her way down the hall to see a nurse struggling with a patient. She rushed in to subdue the thrashing patient with the nurse and after about 3 minutes of struggling, she looked over the chart at the end of the bed and gave the nurse some orders about medication and certain procedures for said patient. The nurse nodded and thanked her. Waving as she went out, Renko returned to the darkened cooradors of the Karakura Hospital 2nd floor. The moon was full and offered a wide array of stars to dot the sky above. She stopped to look out the window and simply enjoy the quiet. Though she was restless to do something, the sight of the moon made her somber and slightly melancholy.
With the new year, could she protect those that she promised for years now? Would this new year give her new surprises? She didn't know, but she was willing to put forth her best effort to find out.
