Zero walked within the forests of the rukongai on a training mission with some of the new members of the first division. Their mission was to find and destroy the high level targets and be back at the barracks before dinner was served in the evening. She had issued the orders to her subordinates that the targets would be entering the forest in the west and moving fast towards the rukongai villages nearby. They had nodded, though some looked uneasy when she had told the new arrivals about their training mission. Some of them looked uneasy when she had given the orders, and she could only guess why she had gotten that look. Rumors flooded the seireitei about every little thing, she was sure, and the rumors about her rather....darker....side was coming to light. Zero had no care in the world about whether they were scared of her or not. She had figured they would at least take their mission seriously and not worry about what their friend told them about the first division lieutenant. She was certain they all were afraid of her, but she didn't care in the slightest.
The Lieutenant slowed as she kept her hand on her sealed zanpakto. It's black sheath and black blade sealed under the black chain that wrapped itself tightly around the sword. The only color on it was the blood red cloth that wrapped around the handle. The new shinigami went on ahead of them, their orders given and tasks set, as Zero stayed behind for a moment to let them handle the targets. If they can handle it without her, then they are right for the first division, if not...well, survival of the fittest. Zero glanced around her to see if any of them were around anymore. They weren't. She walked ahead slowly as she sensed them all scattering and searching for the targets. She could also hear them over the radio in her ear, but some part of her tuned them out after a while. Her thoughts drifted to her conversation with Hirato earlier in the week. She had gotten done with her paperwork for the time being; if only to get him to stop nagging her about it. Her wish to get a reaction out of him wasn't a success, but the shocked expression on his face at the end did sent a satisfied shiver down her spine at the thought.
She wanted to keep herself hidden from him truly for a while longer, but the thought of the anguish on his face over finding out his wife was used for experiments was just too juicy. Biting her lip with a sly smile, she put a hand to her cheek as she sighed in content at the thought. Truly she was opposite her original. While Kaoru wished for peace and to make sure those she loved were safe, Zero did not care for peace, nor did she have the capacity to love anyone. However, the conversation did turn up something that she had suspected beforehand. His reactions to her told her that he did not trust her and that no matter how sweet and naive she acted, he wasn't convinced otherwise. As a whole, it did not matter that he didn't trust her, only that he kept her on the squad. She had also suspected a long time ago that she was kept in the first division for a reason. Everything she had done would normally get a lieutenant thrown in the prison, but for some reason she was kept around.
"Oh how interesting this has become..." She whispered with another bite to her lips. Her yellow eyes danced in her excitement. She wrapped her arms around herself in a sort of self hug and giggled loudly.
"Lieutenant Zero, what was that?" Someone had asked over the radio. She blinked rapidly, realizing that she was still on the line with them.
"Oh, nothing, silly, I was just talking to myself. I had fallen back to keep watch over this sector for a little bit." Zero's voice was uplifting and bubbly. She giggled again, but her expression stayed dark. It was simply to change her voice to fit whatever she said.
"Alright. We are approaching the target now, shall we engage?" Already? Zero sighed, realizing she had to get back to work again.
"Yes, I shall be right behind you if you need any help. Everyone do your best, okaaaaaay?" Zero cheered over the radio, but this time she appeared happy and excited. An easy switch. Hunting hollows was exciting, but the thrum of the chase and dance with Hirato made her even more excited.
"Yes ma'am!" All of her new squad members cheered back at her as they engaged the target.
Giggling one last time before taking off towards them, Zero placed her hand over the hilt of her zanpakto. She felt the need to be cruel and her bloodlust grew the more she thought about what excited her the most.
In a battle nobody has to know of friendly fire; it can all just be a simply accident.
